Dear VLM enthusiast,
When you first start out with VLM carpet cleaning, you’re going to run into a problem…
You’ve gotta vacuum every job.
Every. Single. Job.
You might be tempted to skip this 1st step, but it’s the most important step in the carpet cleaning process.
In fact, a lot of other carpet cleaners (especially “steam” cleaners) will tell you to skip this step, but they are WRONG.
You see… most people vacuum about as well as they floss their teeth. Not very well! (Gross, right?)
That means you’re going to need a vacuum cleaner to remove all the dirt, hair, dander, and other “stuff” that hides deep down in most people’s carpet.
At this point, most folks say “no problem, I’ve got a vacuum cleaner.”
Sorry, but your $75 sucker from Wally World isn’t going to cut it.
Fact is… you’re going to need a really good vacuum!
Because – in addition to dirt – you’ll accidentally suck up paperclips, nails, twist ties, and all kinds of other junk that would destroy a normal vacuum.
Your standard consumer vacuum might last a couple jobs, but you’ll run into 3 big problems with it:
- The dirt cup doesn’t hold much, so you’ll be emptying your vacuum after every room (what a pain)
- The cord is too short, which means you have to plug & unplug constantly
- Your low powered vacuum is going to burn out quickly. Especially if the beater bar gets clogged up with hair… which it will
What’s the solution?
A commercial vacuum cleaner!
Don’t worry, a commercial vacuum doesn’t need to be expensive. But it will save you a lot of headaches.
Things to look for in a commercial vacuum:
-Cheap, easy to replace parts (including bags! You’ll use a lot of them)
-High capacity bag or dirt cup
-Long cord, so you don’t have to unplug after each room you vacuum
I’ve included a few vacuum suggestions in the VLM checklist (click here to get a free copy). If you need a vacuum for your biz, that’s a great place to start your search.
Best,

P.S. – I prefer bags vs dirt cups. Vacuum bags are cheap (look on Amazon for bulk deals). I hate cleaning out dirt cups. It’s way easier to toss your full bags in the dumpster.
