At this point you might be wondering “do VLM carpet cleaners use a different kind of cleaning solution than steam cleaners?”
Yes, they do!
VLM cleaners don’t typically use the same pretreatments and cleaning solutions as steam cleaners.
VLM cleaners use VLM cleaning solutions. Makes sense, right? 😉
What makes a good VLM cleaning solution?
Here are my 3 rules for a VLM cleaning solutions:
- Must be approved for “low moisture” or “bonnet” cleaning
- Must leave low or no residue on the carpet (this is important, because residue can make the carpet get dirty again quickly!)
- Must be easy to get good results
There are a lot of solutions available on the internet. My favorite is Green Dragon from Encapstore.
Green Dragon is great because:
-It’s made specifically for VLM cleaning and leaves no residue!
-It’s inexpensive
-It’s easy to use (and gets great results)

P.S. – some people like to start with “Fabuloso” which is available at many dollar stores and home stores (Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, etc). You can also use things like peroxide or ammonia. But unless you know exactly what you are doing, I don’t recommend mixing your own chemicals. It’s much safer to buy a pre-made (and tested) VLM cleaning solution like VLM.
